Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Updated: Oct 10

1. How often should I service my Parsun outboard motor?

For optimal performance, a basic check should be done after every 20–50 hours of use. Full servicing—including oil change, grease, and inspection of key components—is recommended at least once a year or at the start of each boating season.

2. Can I leave fuel in my outboard motor during storage?

Short-term storage (up to 3 months) is fine if you add a fuel stabiliser. For longer periods, it’s best to drain the fuel system to prevent varnish or gum build-up, which can damage the engine.

3. How do I choose the right motor size for my boat?

Consider your boat’s length, weight, passenger and cargo load, and typical use. Our Size Guide and interactive calculator make it easy to determine the recommended horsepower range for safe and efficient operation.

4. What’s the difference between 2-stroke and 4-stroke Parsun motors?

2-stroke motors are lighter and simpler, often suited to small boats and portable use. 4-stroke motors are quieter, more fuel-efficient, and provide smoother performance, ideal for larger vessels or extended trips.

5. How should I store my outboard motor in winter?

Flush with fresh water, apply fogging oil, grease moving parts, change oils if applicable, and store the motor upright in a dry, protected location. Disconnect and maintain the battery separately.

6. Can I perform motor maintenance myself?

Yes, many routine tasks like flushing, lubrication, and inspection can be done at home. For more complex servicing, especially for 4-stroke motors or warranty-covered work, visit a certified Parsun dealer.
